This week I had the pleasure to talk with Jennifer Appleby Vines from Wildcraft Wherever Catered Events. I asked Jennifer what she thought was the most important part of an event is and here is what she said….
"It’s the Guest Experience”
“You want your guests to have a fantastic time at your event and to talk about it for weeks afterwards. The first thing to think about is what YOU want or expect when you are a guest at an event. This will help you create a perfect experience for your guests.”
Here are a few examples and considerations on how to put your guests first:
If you are a Bride or Groom hosting your wedding and are planning a two hour cocktail hour: keep in mind that this is a long time for your guests to stand around. Since some of your guests will be from out of town, remember they will not know each other, as well others may bring their children with them. Find ways to keep your guests engaged by adding activities or having entertainment for them. As an alternative, shorten your cocktail hour by having your photos done before the ceremony, this will also allow you to be present at the cocktail hour.
Another scenario: You are planning a cocktail party that starts at 7pm on a Friday night, remember that your guests will likely not of eaten dinner before they show up. If this is the case, you will want to ensure that you provide enough food for a meal replacement, even if the items are smaller. You could also consider moving the cocktail party up one hour to 8pm, this way you know people will have eaten dinner before they attend the party. You would then offer a lighter selection of passed food items to the guests.
Enjoy planning your event and always put your guests first – they will remember that forever.
