Our event planners at Hacienda Sarria spend many of their waking hours dreaming up the details of our clients’ weddings.
From time to time, they do find a moment to include a little romance in their own lives too. The new addition to our event planning team, Miss Ashley Morley, will soon become Mrs. McCumber as her long-time boyfriend proposed to her in January 2014.
Many of us at Hacienda have years of planning weddings under our belts, so we were curious about how Ashley’s experience of becoming both an event planner and a bride would unfold.
Over the next year, Ashley will become a Hacienda bride and get to experience the wedding day from both sides of the story.
We will help to guide her through the process with our seasoned advice, and we will also be sharing her experiences here on our blog so that future bride’s may have a first-hand view of the many possibilities when it comes to planning a wedding.
“What happens when a wedding planner gets engaged?”
How did it all begin?
After 11 years of dating, Ashley’s fiancé Mike decided to pop the question on Lover’s Beach in Los Cabos, Mexico- the same week we asked Ashley to become part of the Hacienda team.
Ashley was more than willing to share her story with us of what she calls the most exciting week of her life (so far, of course).
“I should start by telling you that I unofficially proposed to Mike many times throughout the last 11 years of dating, but he always told me he was waiting for the right time. When we left for our trip to Mexico with my sister and her boyfriend in January, I had a sneaking suspicion that the right time might finally be here.
In hindsight, I definitely should have known by the way he was clutching his bag that there was something way more valuable than swim trunks in there. The day that we arrived in Los Cabos I was offered the job as the full-time event planner at Hacienda, so you can imagine how happy that made me.
Then, on the second day, the four of us went to Lover’s Beach and the moment I’d waited for so patiently finally arrived. Walking hand in hand away from the others, Mike was very nervous- so much so he was shaking. After 11 years, you have to wonder what he had to be so nervous about! But he had a little speech prepared, and got down on one knee in the sand.
‘It’s you and me forever now,’ he whispered- and I will never forget it.
After I said yes and put on the ring he had picked for me, I noticed my sister and her boyfriend had been following us taking photos. That is one of the reasons Mike chose Los Cabos as the place to ask me- he knows I love photography and that it would undoubtedly be picturesque.
We then spent the rest of the week celebrating our engagement (and my new job) in the sun and the sand. I will always remember that trip as the one week in Mexico when it all came together.”
